The Power of Positive Thought and self-talk: 5 Daily Mindset Shifts for Growth and results

Many of us have something in common in our lives, the pursuit of personal growth. Wherever our endeavors lead us, we as humans like to feel fulfilled, accomplished and content on our respective paths.

I’ve come to understand on a deeper level how self-sabotage can hinder personal growth, and it starts with a person’s outlook on life, mindset during difficult times, and their ability to ‘weather the storm’.

I wanted share what I’ve learned about the power of thought and self-talk, along with 5 daily mindset shifts that you can use today for your personal growth journey.

Let’s dive in!

Adjust your speech

Hypnotherapists use speech in a certain way for a reason when they’re working with their clients. I’ll cover more on the subconscious and rewiring it in future articles, but essentially our subconscious minds register speech as it is, and often times what we say out loud is a reflection of what is within the subconscious.

By implementing these adjustments in speech, it will eventually register in the subconscious mind. Here’s a few examples:

  1. Instead of saying ‘I’m trying to get back into shape’, say ‘I’m getting back into shape’.
  2. Instead of ‘I’m trying to eat healthier’, ‘I’m now eating healthier’.
  3. ‘I don’t own a house but I’m trying to save up for one’ might be better by saying ‘I don’t yet own a house and I’m saving to buy one soon’.

You can start simple adjustments in your speech today – you’ll be surprised when you catch yourself saying it one day – that’s the power of the subconscious mind!

Positive Affirmations

Experts say 90%-95% of our daily actions and decisions come from the subconscious mind. With that, the power of positive affirmations and repetition are one way to shift your mindset for the growth and results you’re looking by essentially rewiring your subconscious mind through self-talk.

A lot of people have seen the viral positive affirmation sets on the Tik Tok shop and other social media platforms, but why pay when you can find examples for free?

Positive affirmations can be anything, but make sure they’re specific to you and your goals. Here’s more on affirmations along with some examples.

A Guide to Affirmations for Self-Growth

embrace being uncomfortable – that means you’re growing

If every successful personal growth story entailed an easy and worry-free one, all while staying inside the ‘comfort-zone’, then every person on the planet would have remarkable stories to tell.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. Growth happens when a person is able to develop resilience, strength and, in my opinion, the ability to be resourceful and make things happen, even under difficult circumstances.

I’ve found that when difficult situations come my way, using positive affirmations helps me muscle through them. I say things like, ‘I’m right where I need to be’; ‘I always find a workaround in difficult situations’, etc.

Developing positive beliefs about ourselves is a critical mindset shift needed to ensure growth and positive results.

When the challenging times come and you find yourself uncomfortable, just know you’re growing!

‘When you fail, fail forward’

In a physical sense, it’s harder to get back up from falling down backwards than it is forwards. Metaphorically, falling down forwards is having the ability to adopt an optimistic mindset and take every hurdle or failure as a learning opportunity.

Some of the greatest inventions we know today were never achieved on the first try – in fact for may of them, it took hundreds, if not thousands of attempts to perfect what are now household names.

A good affirmation might be ‘if I fail, I will fail forward and take it as a learning opportunity’.

Focus more on what went right than what went wrong

Sometimes dwelling on the wrong things can lead a person to only see negativity. Our minds have filters (stay tuned for articles on manifestation and reality shaping) and if what’s filtered out is all of the positive things about your journey, then you’ll only absorb the negatives and it could hinder progress.

Framing your mind to focus more on what’s going right as opposed to the hurdles or failures, will help you plan your next steps on your journey.

Don’t get me wrong – having an understanding of what went wrong is an important building block for being able to adjust and improve the next time, but it’s the focus on the positive aspects that will help with reassurance and confidence.

It might sound cheesy, but in situations like this, I find it helpful to write a list that compares the positive and negative. There’s something about writing a list and being able to see it visually that helps it register easier. You may be surprised to see just how much is going right thus far.

Wrap-Up

Personal development, whatever the end goal is, can have its set of challenges, but a shift in mindset and positive self-talk are important for any journey.

Like hypnotherapists, adjusting your speech is a good way to shift both mindset and incorporate positive self-talk so it becomes natural. Positive affirmations are great for reassurance, and with repetition, will register in the subconscious and become a part of your identity, giving you ability to handle difficult situations easier.

Reminding yourself that challenges and feeling uncomfortable on your journey are actually positive indicators – it means growth is taking place, so embracing it will benefit you in the long-run.

If ever a failure comes up, seeing the positive and acknowledging it will help you develop the resilience to get back up and do it again. You’ll be well on your way to being able seeing the positive out of any challenge or failure – it’s just a matter of time until you start catching yourself having positive thoughts and self-talk naturally – that’s the subconscious at work!

-Cheers
